How 2 sorority girls got on shark tank and made a deal with Barbara Corcoran and Kevin O’leary

Established in 2012, Kate Steadman and Sharon Bui, Frill prides itself on strengthening women across the world, through confidence and personality. Creating looks that will empower young women to achieve their best, is at Frill’s core. Although Frill recognizes the importance of creating a unified look, Frill also understands the need for individualism within the Greek community.

Whether it’s fitting a bridesmaid for her bestie’s big day or supporting sisters during the most important days of recruitment, Frill will make you look and feel fabulous!

Sharon and Kate started Frill Clothing in college in 5 accounts and their business has since grown organically.

How did you find your first customers?

  • They started with their own sororities.
  • Were in the local newspaper and got a ton of word of mouth
  • Spread through social media.
  • Bootstrapped year 1-3

They wanted to take the leap of faith and wanted to prove to themselves that there is a viable market.

They sent a video to Shark Tank.

They prepared at home exhaustively and split expertise between them so that they were able to answer all the shark questions. And cinched a deal with Barbara Corcoran and Kevin O’leary.

Do not over value the company. Be realistic. Valued their company based on sales.

Have all your financials, metrics, data.

Also, know your why.

They have been able to form a lot of partnerships because of getting Barbara and Kevin n their side.

What are the key points to keep in mind when they are growing their business?

  • Take a step back and evaluate where you want to do. Align our vision to daily work.
  • Don’t spread yourself very thin. Stay true to your customer base.

Proving that you are serious.

Focus and set goals. Don’t get carried away with the now things.

Dream big, take a leap of faith, if you have the passion and perseverance, things will happen.
